Mumbai: Relentless rain since Saturday night disrupted normal life in Mumbai and neighbouring areas, with waterlogging reported on roads and railway tracks, affecting commuters and train services.
The eastern side of Nalasopara railway station was inundated, forcing commuters to wade through water. Several roads in the Vasai-Virar region, including stretches near Center Park and Tulinj bridge, were also waterlogged.
Train operations were affected after water accumulated on railway tracks near Kurla station, causing further inconvenience to commuters.
A low-pressure area has triggered heavy rainfall across several parts of Andhra Pradesh. Visakhapatnam, Gajuwaka and parts of East Godavari received heavy showers, with the Nidadavolu bus station also reported to be inundated.
In Palnadu district, two elderly women died in separate incidents at Petlurivaripalem and Lakshmipuram villages following a loud thunderclap. The deceased were identified as Nagamma, 63, and Mekala Venkayyamma, 60. Officials suspect the women may have suffered cardiac arrest.
Heavy rainfall was also reported in several Tamil Nadu districts, including Perambalur, Vellore, Virudhunagar and Dindigul.
In Pernambut, a state highway was submerged, disrupting vehicular movement and causing difficulties for commuters.
The weather system is expected to remain active in parts of the state, with heavy rain forecast in the Nilgiris on September 15 and 16, and in Coimbatore on September 16.
With multiple regions witnessing intense rainfall, authorities and commuters remain on alert for further waterlogging and weather-related disruptions.
